Ronde van Vlaanderen

Posted: Sun 15 Jan 2012, 11:15am

Mark Williams Cycling Registration for the 134km Tour of Flanders sportive has now been completed and they are estimating over 20,000 people to attend this year which is going to be crazy as everyone scrambles to get some space on the cobbles to prepare for the climbs, better get to the start early I think!.

Easter on the Shetland Islands!

Posted: Wed 04 Jan 2012, 11:39pm

Mark Williams Cycling I cannot help but grin excitedly at the fact that I have just booked return coach tickets to Aberdeen from where I will be taking a 12 hour ferry to Lerwick on the Shetland Mainland and spending the Easter holiday camping/hiking and enjoying the Scottish outdoors in all its wild glory!.

It is sure to be a fantastic holiday and I wish it would come sooner but good things come to those who wait,or so I am told!.

National Express Coaches rule the roost!

Posted: Tue 03 Jan 2012, 11:03pm

Mark Williams Cycling Although we live in the age of high speed trains and high flying aeroplanes they also come with high costs and I have to say that without a doubt National Express Coaches are the way to travel.

For me growing up they were the only way to get directly to the small places in the UK that I frequented but now they are the only choice that I make as they are modern, clean, safe & efficient and I have yet to be on board a service that is late arriving into its destination.

Being a cyclist public transport in the UK is not very friendly towards us especially on trains but with my padded bike box I can pretty much go to London Victoria and reach any destination in Europe within a days travel by the coach and know that my luggage will be safe and secure and exactly how I left it when I stepped on board!.

In the past 12 months I have taken 3 overnight services on the National Express Coaches to Scotland,an overnight service to the Republic of Ireland and countless trips to other UK destinations and found them faultless so it has been the obvious choice for me to book all of my events for 2012 by coach including the Tour of Flanders in Brussels,my camping trip to the Shetland Islands via Aberdeen and my month long tour around Norway & Sweeden with their European branch called Eurolines!.

If you want to save some money but still travel in style why not make a New Years resolution to travel by coach,it might be the best thing you\'ve ever done! :)

2012 Virtual cycling challenge starts tomorrow!

Posted: Tue 03 Jan 2012, 1:45pm

Mark Williams Cycling After the success of the 2009-2011 virtual cycle which began in London and finished 11,246 miles later in Sydney,Australia I have decided to make this an ongoing feature and start a new virtual cycle for 2012.

In case you do not know what I am talking about, the virtual cycling challenge is basically to pick a geographical point in the world and work out the distance to London as the crow flies and then tally up all of the miles that I cycle in any form i.e commuting, races, training etc and add them towards the grand total until I reach my destination.

The first virtual cycle to start 2012 off will be from London,United Kingdom to South Georgia,Antarctica which is 5,343 miles.

Stay tuned for progress updates.

And so it begins

Posted: Tue 03 Jan 2012, 1:22pm

Mark Williams Cycling So 2012 has officially started and that means the countdown to the first road sportive of the year has also begun!.

The Tour of Flanders may seem quite far away in March but it\'s not and it will be a race against time to get some practice in the legs and shed off some of the extra weight gained by over indulging on those glorious mince pies over the festive period!.

More details about the event and the scheduling to come very soon!.

Happy New Year!

Mark Williams Cycling Just wanted to wish everyone a very Happy New Year from Preyom.com & Mark Williams.

Thank you very much for your continued support especially during 2011 which was a particularly difficult year,

All the best for 2012 and all of your upcoming cycling events!.

That is it for 2011!

Mark Williams Cycling And that's it for the 2011 event season!

After the success of Sunday\'s Isle of Wight ride I plan on easing off a little for the next month or so and using the upcoming holiday season to recharge the batteries and get back to full strength with the confidence that my form is where I want it to be so that I can go into 2012 ready to tackle the Tour of Flanders in March with everything that I have!.

As usual stay tuned for more updates, info & general news over the festive season.

Don\'t eat too many mince pies!.

Winter on the Isle of Wight!

Posted: Mon 05 Dec 2011, 10:46pm

Mark Williams Cycling On Sunday I took part in a new event launched by Wiggle called the Wiggle Wight Winter 2011.

It had two routes with the epic route consisting of 62 miles in and around the Isle of Wight with some absolutely spectacular coastal views, long & gradual but also enjoyable climbs as well as a few short steep ones to get the juices flowing!

I targeted this event as my comeback ride as due to one reason or another I  have had a bad run of event withdrawals and cancellations in the middle to later part of 2011 so I was unsure of my form and although I felt good I needed to try it on the road properly against the clock and that\'s exactly what I did!.

As per usual in the sportive world the event had 3 finishing standards of Gold/Silver & Bronze and I managed to set a time of 4 hours and 15 minutes  putting me high up into the Silver time bracket and frustratingly just outside of the Gold standard by 7 minutes! Those 7 minutes will linger in my mind for quite a while to come as it was so close but I cannot complain as I rode hard and gave it my all and it proved that I was in the form that I thought I was and I felt great on the road.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the day & went home more pleased than I am able to describe with the result as it actually topped all of my past results, not bad for a comeback eh?

Mark Williams Cycling Over the last few weeks as the cycling for this year has started to wind down I've been working on my 2012 schedule and its looking to be the biggest and toughest year of road sportives to date!.

So far I have signed up for the Etape Caledonia,Etape Pennine,Etape Hibernia,The Tour of Flanders and the Wiggle Cornwall Tor.

More events are sure to follow in the next few months.

Its been a while!

Mark Williams Cycling Its been a while since the last update,I\'ve spent most of the month off walking/hiking & touring the far reaches of the Scottish Highlands & Islands and now I feel recharged and ready to prepare for the 2012 season.

Unfortunately I will no longer be participating in the 2011 Levi Granfondo due to personal circumstances but the good news is that I feel as though I am in the best cycling form of my life at the moment so to test that I have signed up for the Isle of Wight loop cycling event in December!.

I have begun to plan out my 2012 cycling schedule with the Tour of Cornwall and the Etape Caledonia already confirmed so stay tuned for future updates and more details as and when they become available and as always follow me on Twitter to keep up to date with the very latest news.
